Getting Ready for a Zoom Telehealth Session

Before initiating your first Zoom Telehealth session in Zanda, take a moment to verify your device settings and Zoom preferences.

Before initiating your first Zoom Telehealth session in Zanda, take a moment to verify your device settings and Zoom preferences. This will help ensure a seamless and effective experience.

Setting up your Zoom preferences

  • To ensure your Zoom preferences are saved for every call, we recommend creating a free account with Zoom and logging in.
  • This allows you to personalize settings such as your camera, background, and other preferences directly in your Zoom account.
  • When you begin a telehealth session, select the option to launch your calls using the Zoom app by clicking ‘Start with Zoom App.’
  • This will ensure that your telehealth sessions utilize the preferences you have configured in your Zoom account.
  • You can also use Zoom’s own in-meeting audio settings, such as Original Sound (useful for musicians and others who want to turn off Zoom’s speech-optimized audio processing), because a Zanda telehealth call runs on a genuine Zoom meeting. These are Zoom’s own settings, not Zanda settings, so check Zoom’s support site for the current steps to turn them on.

Running a test meeting

  1. Click ‘Start A Test Meeting’ button in your Zanda Telehealth launch page.
  2. The Zoom launch page will open. Click the ‘Join’ button:
  3. Click ‘Open Zoom Meetings’ to open the meeting in the Zoom App. Alternatively, click the ‘Launch Meeting’ to open the meeting in your browser.
  4. The system will prompt you to test your camera, microphone and speakers to ensure they will work in a session.
  5. Once you confirmed that the camera, microphone and speakers are working, click ‘End Test’

Testing audio with someone else before a session

If you want to check your audio, including any Zoom audio settings you have changed, with a second person before using it with a client, you can join your own telehealth appointment from two devices.

  1. Use an existing telehealth appointment, or create a test one.
  2. On one device, start the session as the practitioner from the appointment panel in Zanda.
  3. On a second device, for example a phone or another computer, open the same appointment’s client telehealth link and join it the way a client would.
  4. Since both links join the same Zoom meeting, you and your second device will hear and see each other, letting you confirm your audio works the way you expect before your next real session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my camera show a blocked or crossed-out icon during a telehealth session?

This icon belongs to the Zoom video window itself, not to your telehealth launch page in Zanda, so it reflects something happening inside Zoom rather than anything Zanda’s telehealth integration controls. It can appear even when your camera’s permission is already granted, no other program is using it, and nothing about your device has changed.

If you see this and your camera works everywhere else on your device:

  • Fully close the browser tab or the Zoom app and reopen it, rather than refreshing the page.
  • Click the small arrow next to the camera icon and re-select your camera from the list.
  • Check for a Zoom app update.
  • If the icon still will not clear, contact Zoom support directly, since only Zoom can troubleshoot its own in-meeting display.

This is separate from your operating system’s or browser’s camera permission prompt. If you have already allowed camera access at that level and the icon is still crossed out inside the Zoom window, the fix needs to happen inside Zoom’s own settings.
