“Healing starts with listening to yourself.”

Jo Anna started her private practice to create a safe, grounded space where people could reconnect with themselves and feel deeply supported.
Through mindfulness, narrative therapy, and body-based practices like TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises), Jo Anna guides adults in exploring not just what’s bothering them, but who they truly are underneath it all.

“The work always brings us back to the self–how we relate to our bodies, our stories, and the world around us.”

 A practice rooted in presence

Jo Anna’s day-to-day is intentionally reflective of the therapeutic environment she creates for clients–calm, mindful, and centered. She incorporates breathwork and meditation into her own daily routine, sometimes pausing between sessions to take a few deep breaths. It’s about modeling presence as a way of life.

Even administrative tasks, she says, have become a mindful ritual. From session prep to follow-ups, Jo Anna has built a practice that prioritizes ease, and that starts with how she shows up each day.

From community mental health to private practice

Before launching Mindful Therapy Care, Jo Anna worked in behavioral health and nonprofit spaces. Her clinical internship at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center introduced her to a deeper, more embodied form of care, one that prioritized presence over paperwork and helped clients feel safe in their bodies again.

This experience became foundational. In a world where people are often stuck in their heads, Jo Anna helps them return to their bodies with curiosity, compassion, and patience.

“So much of healing happens through reconnecting with your body. We’re conditioned to disconnect, but when we listen, so much releases.”

Starting solo and finding the right support

Running a business alone felt daunting at first. Without a team to manage admin tasks, Jo Anna worried about juggling everything from scheduling, billing, notes, branding, and more.

Enter Zanda.

“I thought I’d need a whole team. But Zanda made it possible to do it all myself and not burn out.”

Jo Anna needed a system that was:

  • All-in-one and easy to navigate
  • Affordable for a new business
  • Flexible for offering both counseling and body-based services
  • Professional yet personal, with room to reflect her brand

Zanda delivered on all counts.

Why Zanda?

  • Built-in Telehealth: Jo Anna canceled her separate Zoom account and now uses the Zanda telehealth integration for all virtual sessions with one less bill.
  • Custom Branding: Being able to add her own logo and brand identity to her client portal made her practice feel like her own.
  • Reports & Scheduling Tools: She tracks client trends, offers free 15-min consultations, and books new clients all from one intuitive dashboard.

“It’s the first thing I open in the morning and the last thing I check at night. It feels like my own personal workspace.”

Consistent growth

Since starting with Zanda, Jo Anna has seen consistent month-over-month growth in her practice. She says Zanda makes it easier for potential clients to take the first step. Offering no-cost consults through her client portal has increased engagement and made the process less intimidating for those new to therapy.

“It’s not just about filling a caseload. It’s about offering a path forward for people who need healing but may not know where to begin.”

Creating content her way

Though she’s not a fan of “talking-head” videos, Jo Anna found an authentic way for her to share her message. She launched a YouTube channel where she films her own TRE and mindfulness practices inviting viewers to witness, not just learn.

“It’s not about instructing. It’s about showing. Sometimes I’m just meditating on my patio but that alone can remind someone to slow down and breathe.”

She dreams of one day traveling the world to learn from other healing traditions, ceremonial practices, cultural approaches, and body-based wisdom that can enrich her offerings.

Jo Anna’s pro tip for practitioners

Offering a free 15-min consultation on her client portal has helped Jo Anna build trust early and start meaningful client relationships. It’s simple, low-pressure, and opens the door to deeper work.

 Why it all matters

At the heart of Jo Anna’s work is accessibility. Not just in pricing or availability, but in helping people access themselves. Through somatic therapies, mindfulness, and storytelling, she helps clients listen inward and move forward.

“Healing doesn’t have to be complex. Sometimes, it starts with pausing long enough to notice: what is my body telling me today?”

ZANDA IN THREE WORDS

“Efficient. Involved. Integrated.”
