"I've got a really good understanding and knowledge in terms of what it takes to manage, run and own a practice."
"Over the years, I have worked with multiple platforms, but I always come back to Zanda and I always recommend Zanda to any practice owner looking for a suitable platform to manage their practice. I just find it's the most functional, it's the most reliable, it ticks so many boxes."
Jenni Salisbury has spent more than 15 years inside allied health practices, learning firsthand what it takes to manage and grow a practice.
She has managed everything from smaller clinics to practices with 20+ practitioners, working across psychology, physiotherapy, osteopathy, remedial massage and many other allied health disciplines. In 2022, Jenni also launched her own telehealth practice, giving her experience managing and owning a health business.
“I’ve got a really good understanding and knowledge in terms of what it takes to manage, run and own a practice.”
Today, Jenni brings that experience to practice owners through Practice Management Administration & Support, helping with setup, Zanda audits, consulting and administration support and training.
Learning practice management from the inside
Jenni’s understanding of practice operations comes from years spent working within them.
She has seen the differences between disciplines, service types and business structures, but also the challenges that appear across most practices.
When practitioners enter private practice, their focus naturally goes to attracting clients, building referrals and delivering care. Administration can quickly fall behind.
“Practitioners are very good at what they do in terms of providing care for their clients, but often the administration side of things is something that they’re not as experienced or even comfortable with.”
Her advice is to think beyond what the practice needs today.
“Start out how you would like to finish. Where do you see yourself in five, seven years or even ten years as a practice?”
If growth is part of the plan, the practice needs to think about its systems early.
“Get all your ducks in a row now. Make sure you’ve got everything working for you now.”
When administration becomes harder to manage
As practices get busier, small gaps in administration can become larger problems.
Billing needs follow up. Intake information needs collecting. Clients need reminders. New practitioners need to understand how the practice works.
“If you haven’t got that administration locked in and solid, have all of your systems in place early, the busier you get as a practitioner, the quicker that side of things can fall apart.”
Jenni often sees practices struggle with intake forms, consent information, billing and collecting client details before the first appointment.
Individually, those tasks may seem small, but repeated across dozens of clients each week, they add up to measurable time pulled away from the practitioner.
Seeing how much a practice is actually using
One of the most common things Jenni encounters is practices that have used Zanda for years but are only using a fraction of what’s available.
“We have clients that have been using Zanda for a couple of years and they say, ‘We’ve been using it for years, but really, we just use it as a calendar.’”
That’s often where a Zanda audit starts.
Jenni reviews how the practice operates, what the owner wants to achieve, and how they’re currently using the platform. She then identifies features that could simplify workflows.
Sometimes the audit also uncovers bigger operational gaps, including significant outstanding invoices the owner may not have had a clear picture of.
“We’ll provide a report for the client and say, ‘This is what we can see that you’re using. These are the features that we think will really improve things for you.’”
For Jenni, many of the opportunities are already available inside the system.
“These are the functionalities that are going to make your practice run so much smoother. It’s going to reduce your admin and potentially give you the opportunity to take on more clients.”
Why Jenni chose Zanda
Jenni first began using Zanda when she set up her own online health practice.
She needed one platform to manage online bookings, billing, communication and everyday workflows.
“I absolutely loved the Zanda platform. I loved the simplicity of it. I felt it met all of the practice’s needs.”
As former colleagues and practitioners began opening their own practices, they started approaching Jenni for setup help and software recommendations.
She had worked with multiple practice management platforms, but continued returning to Zanda.
“Over the years, I have worked with multiple platforms, but I always come back to Zanda and I always recommend Zanda to any practice owner looking for a suitable platform to manage their practice. I just find it’s the most functional, it’s the most reliable, it ticks so many boxes.”
Today, she specializes in Zanda setup, audits and consulting while also supporting practices with broader operational questions.
Creating time practitioners can use differently
Jenni doesn’t point to one universal number for time saved, because every practice is different.
She has, however, seen practitioners regain enough administrative time to open one or two additional clinical sessions each week.
“That’s one to two hours per week that we’ve gone from spending that time on admin to being able to facilitate two more one-hour sessions.”
For a practitioner, that time doesn’t have to become another appointment.
“Do I see another client? Great, that’s more income. Or do I finish a little bit earlier on a Wednesday afternoon and go pick my kids up from school? Or do I have Friday morning to myself? Or do I spend that time ‘on’ my business rather than ‘in’ my business?”
That flexibility is one of the outcomes Jenni values most.
“Any administration time we can save is such a benefit to the practice and the practitioners.”
Helping practices grow without rebuilding everything
Jenni supported Zanda setup and helped establish operational systems for a small telehealth practice.
“They’ve expanded from three practitioners only providing starting telehealth. They’ve now got 16 practitioners.”
The practice also outgrew its first physical location and moved into a larger space to accommodate the growing team and business. For Jenni, that growth reinforces why strong systems matter early.
“I think giving practices the ability to grow and evolve by putting systems in place, making the admin really easy, is really rewarding.”
Her goal is for new practitioners to enter an established practice without adding another layer of administration for the owner.
“We want the practitioners to be able to just see their clients, do their notes, and everything else is systemized and done in the background.”
Helping practice owners think ahead
Jenni now works with owners who are starting practices, growing existing businesses, or trying to simplify what they already have.
Those conversations can cover Zanda setup and audits, billing, recruitment, referrals and other practical parts of running a health business.
“People often come to me just to have a chat, we throw ideas around. That’s something I’m really passionate about. I get people thinking outside the box a little bit and getting them to think about things that had never even crossed their mind.”
“We use a logical and ‘logistical’ approach when talking through the functionalities of running a practice. We discuss everything from getting that first referral, to getting paid and pretty much everything in between.”
Her focus is increasingly on helping owners make better decisions before small operational problems become larger ones.
What 15+ years in health practices taught Jenni
After managing practices, owning one herself, and now helping other owners build theirs, Jenni’s biggest lessons are practical.
Know what’s happening in your practice. Make sure you’re getting paid. Get client information and consent in place early. Use the systems you already have. And think about where you want the practice to be before growth forces you to solve those problems under pressure.
Good administration should make it easier to see clients, grow the practice, and build a business that doesn’t consume every available hour.
As Jenni puts it:
“We all want more time, right?”
With the right systems in place, that time goes back to clients, to growing the practice, or to picking the kids up on a Wednesday afternoon.
